- JOINT SUPPORT ! Yes, surprisingly beef trachea naturally includes chondroitin and glucosamine like Shark cartilage. Not at the same level, but still high levels compared to many treats.
- Dental health: these are whole tubes, that require a little chewing
- Suitable for ALL dog sizes. The tubes are long enough, and the walls thin enough to provide entertainment while eating to all dogs.
- High digestibility (bio-available) to your dog.
What is Beef Trachea Dog Treats?
It’s a little know secret that Beef trachea dog treats are the cow’s windpipe. And that our treat is of course AUSTRALIAN ORIGIN.
It is cylindrical ‘organ’ cattle breathe through. The real secret is that its what dog owners have been buying for years without even knowing its origin. You see, beef jerky (the one originally sold by every company), was actually just beef trachea sliced vertically in half and flattened.
This might seem like a little of a cheat, because it wasn’t actually MEAT jerky that many people might have thought. But the bonus is that because it isn’t a highly sort after human treat, that it has become quite affordable for many dog owners, compared to genuine meat beef jerky (like our Beef Jerky PRIME and beef jerky pieces dog treats.
That said, if you are paying the same price for beef trachea as true beef jerky (100% meat) – then indeed you might be over-paying for what you thought you were getting.
If you are paying for beef jerky, at least get beef jerky (meat) !
The upside is, that beef trachea dog treats are mainly made of cartilage. And it’s this fact that means that it is also a very natural source of chondroitin and glucosamine. The reason I am highlighting ths is that these are the two main ingredients that people buy shark cartilage for. Yes shark cartilage has these compounds in high amounts, and is also relatively low in kilojoules, meaning that they can clean their teeth by eating the sticks and get the massive joint support benefits, without adding much to their energy intake.
With beef trachea, you get a relatively long chew, for smaller dogs. The delicious beef taste, plus the bonus of some of the joint support natural chemicals.
It is the chondroitin that is used inside of the dog’s body for maintaining and re-growing bone joint cartilage and making the liquid between the joints more viscous. Glucosamine has pain relief value (which reduces the pain from swelling around arthritic joints).
About Beef trachea digestibility
Beef trachea is highly digestible because it’s a 100% animal products. There are very few plant dog treats that rank anywhere near any of the meat jerkies, so this means less of the product is wasted when your dog eats it. It is also hypo-allergenic in general – of course as long as your dog is ok with eating beef.
Beef Trachea CHEWABILITY
This is probably where beef trachea really excels. Besides its joint support, the cylindrical nature of the treat, means that a dog needs to figure out how to best rip and shred it. It has a natural physical structure keeping it together, rather than something extruded like kibble. So not only is it low in carbs (less teeth rotting capability) – it will also promote teeth cleaning, and satisfy their primal urges of chewing.
FEEDING AMOUNT and Storage
Currently most of the tubes are between 50 and 70 grams. That can change from batch to batch, due to the completely natural variation of the product. Being (100%) with no nasties. This means that you can add most likely 10-25% of their daily intake of food as the trachea (dry weight substitute for kibble). For raw feeders they can easily substitute up to 50% of dry meat/ offal equivalent, but if you are not confident of balancing your dogs diet, stay at the level you are comfortable adding.
Affco only requires 18% protein (from any source) to be in a dogs food. And that is VERY low, coupled with lower bio-availability of plants (grain or potato) in most kibble, means that a meat / cartilage based treat is a good way to increase useable protein to your dog.
Always Store your healthy dog treats in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Out of oxygen and ideally in the pantry. That will give the treats their best shelf life.
Ingredients:
- 100% Beef Trachea
Typical nutrient profile
- Crude Protein (min) 60%
- Crude Fat (min) 8%
- Moisture 10%
- Crude Fiber (max) 2.0%
TRACE ELEMENTS:
- Glucosamine: 150–250 mg per 100 grams
- Chondroitin: 50–150 mg per 100 grams
For comparison, Shark cartilage (On average, 100g of dried shark cartilage contains approximately: Chondroitin: 3,000–7,000 mg (3–7%) AND Glucosamine: 5,000–8,000 mg (5–8%). Note the amount varies with species of shark etc but as you can see if you are specifically after a major joint support natural chemical you would chose shark cartilage, but Beef trachea has the added bonus of typically longer chewing, beefy taste and generally more occupying for your loved one.
