Bully stick/ beef pizzle dog treats consumed by Scrat – VIDEO!
Scrat is mainly a kelpie, and in quarantine any kind of meat distraction is well worth its weight in gold to a dog. This is the video of Scrat eating the bully stick from start to end. It is sped up by x3 in the middle to prevent your snoozing.
Blackdog sells their bully sticks/ beef pizzle in packs of 25, which you can buy from my on-line store on this site, but I also break these bags down into packs of five.
I have weighed a few of these 25 stick bags and the beef pizzles usually come in between 520 and 580 grams, but of course being meat their size is very seasonal. This means that most packs of five are 500g or more, but within these five sticks sizes can vary considerably.
The bully stick that you see Scrat eating is typically the average size of the pack. The largest beef pizzle are often 30% bigger and the smaller about the width of a pencil.
What is the difference between a bully stick, a beef pizzle, and a cow’s penis? NONE.
As wiki says “Pizzle is an old English word for penis, derived from Low German pesel or Flemish Dutch pezel” and of course it makes it easier to order a pizzle or bully stick in the dog treat shop than ask for it by actual anatomical name.
Why are Bully Sticks/ Beef Pizzles so good for dogs?
Being the healthy dog treat expert, I make it my business to know what purpose each treat serves. Some people buy dog treats based on the species of animal, an ad on TV, or the length of chewing.
Bones such as the lamb, pork or roo that I sell on this site are great for long-lasting chews. They are oven dried to perfection so they don’t become too brittle, but many dogs can’t manage a full size bone. Bones provide near equal amounts of calcium and phosphorus in a dog’s diet so it is important particularly on a raw diet to know how much bone a dog should consume each day to fall within the right range, but again, large dried bones are usually given as a rare treat.
Bully sticks probably fall into the next hardest long chewing treat range. Unlike pork products such as pigs ears, they are not laden with so much fat, meaning that your dog won’t need to adjust the rest of their dog diet to stop them becoming obese if they eat too many.
The bully stick is a long chewing dog treat for most dogs, and as you will see from the video, this medium sized Blackdog beef pizzle took this ravenous kelpie nearly ten minutes to completely consume.
Besides pre-occupying a dog, a long-lasting natural meat dog treats serve the purpose of providing excellent nutrition, great jaw strengthening exercise and teeth cleaning potential.
If your dog doesn’t like bully sticks or has a softer jaw, I recommend roo tendons (when they are in season). These are also long lasting but can be consumed by almost every sized dog.
